Trip to Blood Mountain
View from Blood Mountain We climbed Blood Mountain for some star gazing and to get away from everyone. Our previous experience told us that on a Monday in late November the trail would be uncrowded. We figured there was a good chance that we would be the only people on the mountain that day; we figured incorrectly.

The plan was to hike to the top, and hang out until after dark and do some star gazing. The weather was perfect, warm and clear. We came equipped with a picnic dinner, binoculars and flashlights. Flashlights were crucial to the plan. We needed the lights to hike down the mountain in the dark. I don't generally recommend hiking on the AT after dark, but this is a familiar trail to us (we have hiked it on numerous occasions) and with strong flashlights and a nearly full moon, we anticipated little problem. We were wrong.
