The "Waterfalls Trail" plunges down into the gorge and consists largely of man made steps. The park ranger told Weave that there were five hundred steps on the trail, but I think he was pulling her leg. I kept a rough count coming back up and estimate only four hundred and ninety or so. The falls boast inviting pools of clean blue water but are marked "No Swimming" by large signs. Fortunately the only member of our party that wanted to swim (it was quite chilly) was Ripple. Ripple routinely ignores most signs.
Cloudland certainly offers many amazing sights but, for me, the most interesting sight of the day was the young woman we passed on our hike of the west rim. Let me assure you that my interest in the woman was in no way licentious, although she was quite attractive. Attired in sandals, a silk dress, hose, diamond earrings and a strand of pearls; she was, in my opinion, somewhat overdressed for the occasion. I could not help but wonder if this was typical hiking gear for her, but my attempts to draw her out were unrewarding. She seemed more interested in touching up her makeup than chatting. Well, at least she had the good sense not to wear heels.
