Edge of the World Rapids

The Facts:
Edge of The World Rapids So named because from the viewpoint of a canoeist coming down river it appears as if the river simply drops off the edge of the world, these class IV rapids on the Amicalola River make a great spot to spend a day during the low water conditions of summer. There are numerous rocks for sunning, deep pools for swimming, and great cascades for tubing or sliding. The easy 1/2 mile hike makes it possible to bring a cooler and whatever other gear you may want.

This area is a favorite spot for locals and is highly used. Unfortunately, many of the folks that come here don't seem to respect the natural beauty of this area. The rocks are littered with cigarette butts and beer cans. Despite the debris, this spot is well worth a visit.

Directions: Take Ga 53 east from Dawsonville about 7 miles until you come to the river. Parking is on the left side of the highway before you cross the river. Hike about .5 mile downstream to the rapids.
