Glen Falls
The East Fork of Overflow Creek plunges 640 feet into the scenic Blue Valley in just ½ mile, forming three falls, the upper falls (70 ft.), middle falls (60 ft.), and lower falls (15 ft.). Hikers may stop at the top of the falls for a spectacular view of the Blue Valley before continuing to the base of the upper falls. The trail then descends to the base of the middle falls and then down to the lower falls. Total one way distance is 1.4 miles. The trail is steep and the hike out from the lower falls can be quite strenuous. The experience is well worth the effort, however.
Directions: Take NC 106 south from Highlands, NC 1.6 miles. Turn left at the "Glen Falls Scenic Area" sign. Follow the road 1.1 mile to its end. This is the trailhead.
