Hemlock Falls
Located on Moccasin Creek, the Hemlock Falls trail provides an easy and picturesque hike of 1.2 miles. The waterfall and large plunge pool is a popular spot for visitors to nearby Moccasin Creek State Park, located on the shore of Lake Burton. This area is likely to be quite crowded during the warmer months.
The trail follows an old logging road that winds along side of Moccasin Creek. Hikers will enjoy views of several picturesque cascades before reaching the falls. At approximately 0.75 mi. the trail crosses the creek via a small footbridge. You will want to pause hear as this is an especially scenic spot. Continue on the trail until the falls come into view. Once the falls are in view look for a small side trail that leads to the base of the falls.
Directions:
Turn west from Hwy 197 (turn right if headed north on 197) onto FS 165A (this is located across from the entrance to Moccasin Creek State park). Look for a sign that reads, "Lake Burton Wildlife Management Area). Drive to the road's end (0.6 mi.) and park. The trail begins behind a vehicle-blocking mound topped by a large boulder inscribed with "Hemlock Falls Trail".
