Introduction to the Waterfalls of North Georgia

North Georgia contains thousands of falls and cascades. One could spend a lifetime looking and not see them all. Some of the better known falls attract thousands of visitors each year while many are seldom seen. Many beautiful falls are visible by car or short easy hike, while others require a strenuous hike and some degree of determination to reach.

Amicalola falls and Anna Ruby Falls are the two most visited Falls in the state.

Amicalola falls is the highest fall in Georgia and plunges 729 ft. from the brink to the man made pool at the bottom. An impressive state park with cabins, camping and a modern lodge surround the falls. More Information.

Anna Ruby Falls Anna Ruby Falls is a twin fall system formed by a 150 foot cascade on Curtis Creek and a free falling drop of 50 feet on York Creek. These two streams meet at a common pool at the base of these falls to form Smith Creek. the path to the falls is less than 1/2 mile but seems longer due to the several hundred foot climb. From downtown Helen go north on Hwy 17/75 to hwy 356. Follow hwy 356 for 1.4 miles to FS 242. Turn left. Continue up FS 242 for 3.6 miles to the parking area.
