Although Bob failed to win the hand of Anabell, he was now fit to mingle with
Dancing Bear society, which Bob was delighted to discover was peppered with
plenty of other young girls, many of whom were more receptive to his advances.
Realizing what he had been missing out on, Bob tried to make up for lost time
with an extraordinary zeal. Bob's exploits soon became legendary and it became
impossible for Bob to get near any of the Dancing Bear daughters without facing
a blast from the shotgun of an irate father.
In 1978 Bob left Dancing Bear, siting reasons of health.
Bob resurfaced in 1986 in Kalispell, Montana where Court records indicate that
Bob served ninety days for disorderly conduct. Bob was arrested during a
disturbance involving a tavern keeper, a dwarf named Rita and the daughter of
the mayor of Kalispell. At the time of arrest Bob lists his occupation as
"animal trainer", lending credence to the unsubstantiated reports that Bob was
a carnival performer during these years. A handbill, dated July of 1985, for
the traveling show, "Simon Smith's Astonishing Exhibition", lists "Buck and his
Amazing Dancing Bear" as one of the featured acts. Checking the back issues of
the Kalispell Gazette we find that Simon Smith's show was performing in
Kalispell at the time of Bob's arrest. It seems likely that "Buck" was actually
a stage name used by Bob.
Bob was not heard from again until 1996 when he was discovered living as a
hermit in a cave underneath Dancing Bear Mountain.
