"I don't know, Bob, I think it's that way." I was pointing in the opposite direction.
"I don't thinks so, Weave. I'm pretty sure it's that way."
"O.k. Lead on." I never do seem to learn to trust my instincts.
The book said the falls was only a mile up the trail. We hiked at least four miles without finding it. By the time we returned to the car, we were both worn out, it was becoming dark and Bob was fuming, "Damn book must be wrong."
I suspected that it was not the book that was in error. "Don't worry about it, Bob, I enjoyed the hike."
When we returned home, we fished out the map, sure enough Long Creek falls was clearly marked northeast of Three Forks along the A.T. We had hiked southwest.
"O.k. Weave, say it."
"Say what, honey?" I replied, sweetly.
"Don't be coy. Just get it over with. Just say it."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Say, I told you so. We should have turned around for the map. You were right. I was wrong. We should have gone the other direction. Just say it! Say, I told you so!" Bob was really working himself up into frenzy.
"But Baby, you know it's not in my nature."
"JUST SAY IT!!!"
I smiled at him, adoringly. "Darling, it's just not my way." Bob stalked off, seething. Truly, some things are better left unsaid. Don't you think?
