Amicalola State Park
Amicalola is the Cherokee word for "tumbling
waters". The parks falls (the highest east of the Mississippi) tumbles 729 feet
over seven cascades. The falls consist of one main stream which continues
through the park, offering visitors the opportunity for trout fishing.
The park is the starting point of a rugged eight
mile approach trail to Springer Mountain, the starting point of the 2,150 mile
Appalachian Trail. If you've ever had the desire to hike the A.T., this trail
is a good indication of what would lie ahead. Many have started and ended their
attempt on this trail.
The lodge at Amicalola offers comfortable
accomadations and features a spectacular view. Cozy cottages are available with
a two night minimum stay. Camping sites for tent, trailor or RV are also
available.
